Heiva i Bora Bora 2025

HEIVA I BORA BORA 2025

The Heiva is an annual cultural event in Polynesia. The Bora Bora Heiva is unique and has the particularity of having a sand stage. It is a true moment of sharing and celebration. Everyone who participates and contributes to the Heiva, regardless of their role, demonstrates immeasurable dedication to perpetuating this tradition passed down by their ancestors. From generation to generation, the Heiva takes place and Bora Bora comes alive throughout the month of July. The island's different groups, Hitia, Faanui, Tipoto, Anau, Nunue, and Amanahune, celebrate their culture by offering their songs and dances, their best dancers, and the best orchestra. The Bora Bora Heiva is also an opportunity to discover other cultural activities such as the fruit carrier race, the braiding competition, and the flower float competition. A moment to share with family or lovers.

For generations, the Heiva of Bora Bora has delighted thousands of visitors but it remains little known to the world.

The first Tiurai (meaning July) took place in Tahiti on July 14, 1881, and then for the first time in Bora Bora after the Second World War. Originally, the inhabitants of Bora Bora moved with their Raatira (Chief) to settle in Vaitape during all the festivities. They slept on the Tu Vavau square (formerly Taamutu) or at their family's house. The Tiurai was renamed Heiva in 1985, referring to Madeleine Moua's Heiva group, which laid the foundations of ori tahiti (Tahitian dance).
